Esto es una peña: una piedra grande sin labrar, en su estado natural. 

This is a peña: a very big stone that hasn't been cut, in its natural state.



Cuando un monte está formado por muchas rocas grandes, también le llamamos peña.

When a mountain is formed by many big rocks like the one in the picture, we also call it peña.

1. A menudo nos referimos a las personas que pertenecen a una asociación deportiva o cultural, o a la propia asociación como una peña: "Peña futbolística Comando Celta", "Peña recreativa El Olivo"...

1. The group of people who belong to a cultural or sp "Peña futbolística Comando Celta", "Peña recreativa El Olivo"...orts association or the association itself are often referred to as a peña:

En España hay multitud de peñas futbolísticas: diferentes grupos de aficionados que apoyan a un equipo.                                                                                        

In Spain there are many football peñas: different groups of fans supporting a team.

Morriña Celeste es una de las  peñas que apoyan al R.C. Celta de Vigo, mi equipo. ¿Por qué eligieron ese nombre? Pues son celestes porque el color de la camiseta de su equipo es el azul celeste. En cuanto a morriña... Bueno, ese será el tema de nuestro próximo post. 

Morriña Celeste is one of the peñas supporting R.C. Celta de Vigo, my team. Why did they choose that name? They are celestes (from cielo: sky), because the team's colours are white and sky blue. As to morriña... Well, that is a different story and it will be the subject of our next post.

2. En lenguaje coloquial, peña puede referirse a un grupo de amigos, de ahí el título de este post: "Aquí, con la peña" significa algo así como: "Estoy aquí, con mi grupo de amigos habitual."

2. In everyday language, peña can refer to a group of friends. Estoy aquí con la peña means something like: "I'm here with my usual group of friends." 

3. También en lenguaje coloquial, la palabra peña puede designar a un grupo muy grande de personas o a la gente en general: "Había mucha peña en la playa" significa lo mismo que "había mucha gente en la playa", y "qué loca está la peña" es lo mismo que "qué loca está la gente."  

3. Also in informal language, the word peña can refer to a very big group of people or to people in general: Había mucha gente en la playa means the same as había mucha gente en la playa, y qué loca está la peña, means "(The) people are so crazy..." 

4. Ya por último, cuando usamos el aumentativo peñazo queremos decir que algo es un aburrimiento: "Esta película es un peñazo".

4. And finally, when we use the augmentative peñazo we mean that something is boring, dull: Esta película es un peñazo means "This movie is so boring."
